Update on trading position and prospects
The directors of the Company are pleased to announce that 5 new Local
Authority customers were gained in the important cyclical month of March. This
brings the total number of local authority customers to 19. This is slightly
ahead of expectations of acquired customers, and makes the Company optimistic
of maintaining its market leadership position with Local Authority Planning
Departments as these move to electronic delivery of services.
The pattern of revenue has been different from that in former years. The
average initial contract value for new customers has been lower, although this
is mainly due to new local authority contracts being obtained on a rental
basis rather than a licence basis. While the longer-term value of such
contracts is likely to be higher, the effect is that less revenue is
recognized initially. In addition revenue from entities other than local
authorities has been lower than expected, although this has been partially
offset by the average revenue from existing local authority customers being
higher. The Company has benefited from the fact that all principal customers
gained over the last 3 years remain as ongoing clients of i-documentsystems.
The development of UKPlanning has been slower than anticipated principally due
to delays in recruitment. The operation of UKPlanning has now been moved from
London to Glasgow and the Company believes that the reduction in costs
associated with running an operation from Glasgow will be significant. The
Company is currently conducting pilot schemes for UKPlanning with 2 local
authorities and it is anticipated that the first fee-paying customers will be
contracted before the end of October 2001.
The total effect of the above is that lower revenue is likely to be recorded
in the short term with the longer-term expectations remaining positive.
The interim results for the six months to 30th April 2001 are expected to be
announced by mid July 2001.
