            Buyback of 1,500,000 ordinary shares for cancellation


Inchcape announces that on 19 June 2001 it purchased for cancellation
1,500,000 ordinary shares of 150p each at an average price of 487p per share.
The highest price paid was 490p per share and the lowest price paid was 480p
per share.

Since Inchcape started to buyback its ordinary shares on 21 March 2001 it has
repurchased for cancellation a total of 9,702,500 ordinary shares leaving
78,680,407 ordinary shares in issue.
