               Graeme Potts Appointed as Executive Board Director


Inchcape plc, the international automotive services group, is pleased to
announce the appointment of Graeme Potts to the new role of Managing Director
for Inchcape UK and Europe. Graeme will also join the Board of Inchcape plc as
an Executive Director and both positions will become effective from 10 September
2002.

Graeme will assume responsibility for the expansion of Inchcape's specialist
Retail portfolio in the UK, its Business Services growth strategy in the UK and
Continental Europe and its Ferrari/Maserati businesses, reporting to the Group
Chief Executive, Peter Johnson.

Graeme is an economics graduate and spent four years in retail management with
Marks & Spencer plc.  Having spent 16 years with Reg Vardy and the last three
years leading RAC Motoring Services, Graeme has an outstanding track record in
the automotive sector.

He joined Reg Vardy in 1983 and progressed through the business to ultimately
become Chief Executive in September 1996.

Graeme was appointed as Group Managing Director of RAC Motoring Services and a
Lex Service PLC Board Director following the acquisition of the RAC by Lex in
July 1999.  He successfully led the company's expansion of motoring related
services for both the consumer and business sectors.

Peter Johnson commented:

and is ideally placed to head up our UK and European expansion plans.'

Graeme, 44, has previously served as a non-executive Director for the Retail
Motor Industry Federation.
