             Buyback of 500,000 ordinary shares for cancellation

Inchcape announces that on 20 June 2001 it purchased for cancellation 500,000
ordinary shares of 150p each at a price of 470p per share.

Since Inchcape started to buyback its ordinary shares on 21 March 2001 it has
repurchased for cancellation a total of 10,202,500 ordinary shares leaving
78,180,407 ordinary shares in issue.
