             Buyback of 250,000 ordinary shares for cancellation

Inchcape announces that on 22 June 2001 it purchased for cancellation 250,000
ordinary shares of 150p each at a price of 443p per share.

Since Inchcape started to buyback its ordinary shares on 21 March 2001 it has
repurchased for cancellation a total of 10,702,500 ordinary shares leaving
77,680,407 ordinary shares in issue.
