Toyota (GB) Ltd Sale Cleared

Inchcape, the international automotive services group, announced that the sale
of its 49 per cent interest in Toyota (GB) Ltd to Toyota Motor Corporation for
£42.1 million in cash, made public on 31 July 2000, was completed today
following clearance from the European Commission.

Said Peter Johnson, Group Chief Executive, 'The sale of Toyota (GB) provides
Inchcape with additional funds to progress our customer-focused strategy,
particularly in the UK. Our intention is to reposition ourselves in the UK
market as a broadly based automotive company with a range of businesses built
around customer choice and fulfilment. We will continue to develop our ongoing
Toyota businesses and explore suitable expansion opportunities with Toyota.'
