Infoserve Group PLC ('Infoserve')
New contract with Football League interactive
Infoserve, one of the UK's leading online local search companies, has signed a
three year contract with Football League interactive ('FLi') to provide a local
business finder on the websites of the Football League's 78 consenting
affiliated football clubs.
Under the agreement, Infoserve will sell featured listings to local businesses
that can be accessed through the local business finder on the football clubs'
websites. Advertising revenues will be split between Infoserve, FLi and the
football clubs. Fans will have instant access to an interactive database of 2.7
million businesses searchable by locality and category.
Local businesses have a valuable opportunity to align their brand with their
local team and demonstrate their support in a simple, visible way, allowing them
to tap into football fans' loyalty and their highly specific market profile.
Previously, Infoserve delivered a similar service through an intermediary to 40
football clubs. These 40 football clubs' websites have 2.2 million unique views
a month (January 2007), and this will more than double with the additional 38
clubs.
Commenting on the new contract, Infoserve's Chief Executive, Steve Barnes, said:
'We are delighted to have signed the contract with FLi. It is beneficial for
fans, clubs and local businesses. Fans are getting a quick and easy way to find
the services they require, while clubs are getting valuable extra revenue and
businesses are gaining exposure to extra customers.
A further benefit for businesses is that linking to a football club's website
generates a huge number of back-links, one of the mechanisms search engines use
when ranking pages. For a small company this has the potential to improve
search engine rankings substantially, without having to resort to expensive
pay-per-click advertising.
This deal is very good news for Infoserve and further underlines our status as
one of the UK's leading online local search companies. We're looking forward
to building our relationship with both FLi and the clubs themselves as we
progress.'
