Ingenta signs five year strategic partnership deal with Thomson Corp unit
Ingenta plc, the global market leader in the online distribution of published
scientific, professional and academic research, is pleased to announce it has
signed a major new five year strategic partnership agreement with Gale, a
business unit of the Thomson Learning division of The Thomson Corporation and
a world leader in e-information solutions for libraries, schools and
businesses.
Under the terms of the deal, Ingenta and Thomson Learning's Gale unit will
jointly create a new online subscription service that will be sold by Gale to
its thousands of library customers around the world. Ingenta will benefit from
revenue sharing arrangements subject to an agreed minimum income in each year
covered by the agreement.
The new service will integrate access to Ingenta's collection of over 5,400
online scientific, professional and academic journals with thousands of other
titles published digitally in Gale's collection of reference databases. To be
launched in mid 2002, InfoTrac Plus will be the most comprehensive aggregation
of online periodicals available anywhere in the world, covering almost 10,000
publications.
InfoTrac Plus will be promoted by Gale's sales force, one of the largest in
the library industry, and sold in conjunction with Gale's existing services to
its thousands of library customers in over 100 countries. At the same time,
Gale's sales force will also promote other Ingenta services, including the
Pay-Per-View usage of Ingenta's content and its Specialist Website offering.
Commenting on the new service, Mark Rowse, Chief Executive,
Ingenta plc said:
'This new agreement with Gale will provide a substantial contribution to
Ingenta's Specialist Website activities in 2002, and should provide an
increasing contribution both to this and to its Pay-Per-View activities in
future years. The long-term nature of the strategic partnership adds further
confidence in Ingenta's ability to deliver substantial growth and profits in
2002 and beyond.'
Allen Paschal, Chief Executive, Gale, added:
'This strategic partnership allows two market leaders - Gale and Ingenta - to
create a market-changing new product. For the first time, users of online
periodicals will be able to search across both periodicals digitised by Gale
and those available through Ingenta - together the most comprehensive
aggregation of online periodicals available anywhere in the world, including
almost 10,000 publications. We have high hopes of InfoTrac Plus being the
first choice of the thousands of libraries around the world looking to provide
online access to this rich research resource.'
