Intec signs MMS billing software deal with Swisscom Mobile
• Extended licence underlines next-generation compatibility of Intec
convergent mediation and billing solutions
London, 7th January, 2003 - Intec Telecom Systems has extended its InterconnecT
(TM) PREP license with Swisscom Mobile, Switzerland's leading wireless provider,
to support wholesale billing for mobile Multi-Media Messaging (MMS). The
InterconnecT PREP tool will collect MMS call detail records from charging
gateways on Swisscom Mobile's network and transform them into records for
Intec's InterconnecT system to calculate for billing. InterconnecT was initially
installed into Swisscom Mobile's network in 2002 to support GSM voice and data
traffic, but its next-generation functionality ensures that it can also
seamlessly support the billing challenges of high-value MMS services.
"This agreement is of great strategic value to us, as it proves that Intec's
customers have confidence in our ability to support the business and technical
requirements of 2.5G and 3G technology," explains Christian Ciupek, Intec's
Regional Director. "Intec will help Swisscom Mobile to secure a valuable revenue
stream from MMS services. Intec's InterconnecT PREP technology will offer a fast
and efficient way of gathering data as a front end to the billing system. The
InterconnecT platform will ensure accurate and timely bill generation for
Swisscom Mobile's partners."
More than 70 GSM operators worldwide have launched or are about to launch MMS
services, the industry-defined standard for sending messages between mobile
phones with an unlimited amount of text or multimedia content. MMS builds on the
huge success of the short messaging service (SMS), which currently accounts for
10 to 15 per cent of revenues for European operators. MMS is similar to SMS in
that messages are composed on a mobile handset and sent directly to the
receiving phone. The major difference with MMS is that users can also enhance
their messages with multimedia content such as pictures, audio and video
capabilities.
"The greater functionality of MMS is the beginning of a broader customer
experience which will help lead the way for 3G usage," said Intec's CEO Kevin
Adams. "We are very pleased to support the business requirements of this
wireless service to Swisscom Mobile, and we expect that many of our other
200-plus interconnect billing customers will want to add similar capabilities in
the near future."
