Logica and Intec provide billing solution to Smartcom PCS, Chile's mobile
operator
Santiago/Atlanta - (July 2nd, 2002) - Intec Telecom Systems, a global provider
of operations support systems (OSS) for fixed, wireless and IP/next generation
networks, and Logica, the global solutions company, have jointly sold Intec's
Inter-mediatETM solution to mobile operator Smartcom PCS in Chile. Inter-mediatE
enables telecoms companies to collect, process and distribute network traffic
information to all other downstream systems, including billing. The solution
will assist Smartcom PCS with its business expansion across Chile, one of the
fastest mobile markets in America.
Christian Ojeda Madrid, MIS development manager at Smartcom pcs said: "The
Inter-mediatE solution is replacing Telconet from SchlumbergerSema. We have had
some compatibility issues between our current system and our other IT solutions,
and with Logica's help have conducted careful analyses of the Inter-mediatE
product to ensure that it is the scalable and flexible solution we are looking
for. We are confident that the combination of Intec's product expertise and
Logica's leading consulting and implementation experience will prepare us for
the major changes and growth ahead."
Founded in 1998, Smartcom PCS operates a nationwide mobile wireless system in
Chile. It was the first carrier in the country to introduce prepaid services
with per-second billing and the only wireless carrier to eliminate domestic
long-distance charges entirely, pricing each call as a local call. It is also
the only company in the country that uses CDMA technology, creating the best
network in Chile. With the implementation of Inter-mediatE, Smartcom PCS will
have the capability to continue its tradition of flexible billing models with
future network technologies such as next generation and VoIP transactions.
"Intec and Logica have provided Smartcom PCS with a solution that meets all the
requirements for its data collection and mediation needs," said Winston Rivero,
Intec's sales manager for Latin America. "Together we have shown that
Inter-mediatE is a scalable, flexible, adaptable and stable product. Smartcom
PCS underwent a careful analysis of the solution before making its decision,
which included a detailed RFT response evaluation and a successful site visit by
a multidisciplinary team. By selecting Inter-mediatE as its preferred mediation
platform, Smartcom PCS will gain the opportunity to maximise revenue streams
while meeting the needs of a new generation of wireless users in Chile."
"This agreement combines Logica's proven expertise in consulting and systems
integration with both Logica's and Intec's expertise in OSS solutions," said
Intec's CEO, Kevin Adams said. "Logica's support for our product reinforces
Inte'cs position as a leader in convergent mediation, taking us into an
important new market. Through the use of Inter-mediatE, Smartcom PCS will
acquire the speed and flexibility it needs to introduce a variety of services to
Chile's fast-moving market, thereby securing a competitive advantage over other
mobile companies."
