Intertek acquires Genalysis minerals laboratories in Australia
Intertek Group plc (Intertek), a leading international provider of quality and
safety services to a wide range of industries, has acquired Genalysis Laboratory
Services Pty Ltd (Genalysis), a leading provider of analytical laboratory
services to the minerals exploration industry in Australia and overseas.
Intertek has acquired Genalysis, a private Australian company, from its
owner-managers for an initial cash consideration of AUD 42.0 million (GBP 17.5
million) and a further cash consideration of approximately AUD 14.0 million (GBP
5.8 million), payable in March 2008 dependent on performance in 2007.
The acquisition will complement Intertek's existing global minerals services and
expand its network and capacity. Intertek already provides a range of analytical
services to the world's mineral, ore and mining industries with facilities in
Australia, Indonesia, China, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Brazil and North
America.
Wolfhart Hauser, Chief Executive Officer of Intertek, commented:
'Genalysis complements Intertek's existing minerals business strategically and
will enable us to increase our international market share in minerals testing.
At the same time, it will position us well to benefit from the growing
international commodities market.'
'Development, rapid industrialisation and growing numbers of new consumers in
emerging economies, are driving the global demand for minerals. As a result,
Intertek is managing growing volumes of minerals testing and analysis work from
customers globally as they increase their exploration, production, and export
volumes to meet this demand.'
