AGM Statement on Trading
At the Annual General Meeting of Intertek Group plc today, Vanni Treves,
Chairman, will make the following statement.
'Group trading for the first four months of the year has been encouraging and in
line with expectations.
As is well known, approximately 80% of the Group's earnings are in US dollar and
US dollar related currencies and the US dollar has recently declined against
sterling.
The consumer goods division (Labtest) is continuing to achieve good revenue
growth overall, despite lower growth in textiles. The commercial and electrical
division (ETL SEMKO) and the oil, chemical and agri division (Caleb Brett) both
continue to deliver strong revenue growth. The government services division
(FTS) is experiencing the expected reduction in revenue following the ending of
the Venezuelan and Nigerian pre-shipment inspection contracts but the remaining
business continues to perform well.
After leading the Labtest division for most of his 33 years with Intertek,
Raymond Kong wishes to retire as Chief Executive of Labtest. As of 1 July 2006
he will cease to be an Executive Director and will become a Non-Executive
Director but will continue to act as President of China and Asia advancing the
interests of Intertek's businesses in the region. On behalf of all his fellow
directors, employees and customers, I would like to express my deep gratitude to
Raymond for his outstanding contribution towards building Labtest into the
successful business it is today. Raymond will be succeeded as Chief Executive of
Labtest by Paul Yao, Chief Operating Officer of Labtest who has been with
Intertek for over ten years, most of them managing the toys business. Paul has a
scientific background with a degree in chemistry, and has worked in sales and
marketing in Hong Kong, Singapore and China.'
