Trading statement
Investec to report very strong performance for the 2006 financial year
Investec is currently finalising its results for the year ended 31 March 2006,
which will be released on 18 May 2006.
As highlighted at our pre-close briefing on 23 March 2006, the group has
experienced a very strong performance from all its business units in the second
half of the year and is pleased to report to shareholders that earnings per
share (**as defined below) for the year ended 31 March 2006 is likely to be in
the range of 201.9 pence to 215.4 pence, i.e. 50% to 60% higher than the
corresponding prior period. Earnings per share (**as defined below), as
restated, for the year ended 31 March 2005 amounted to 134.6 pence.
Note:
The forecast financial information on which this statement is based has not been
reviewed and reported on by the group's auditors. These disclosures are made in
terms of paragraph 3.4 (b)(i) of the JSE Limited Listings Requirements which
requires companies to publish a trading statement as soon as they are satisfied
that the results for the period to be reported on next will differ by at least
20% from the previous corresponding period.
Earnings per share definition
**As determined in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards
(IFRS). EPS is before goodwill impairment and non-operating items and after
taking into consideration earnings attributable to perpetual preference
shareholders. EPS for the year ended 31 March 2005 is based on the group's
consolidated pro-forma results as explained in the group's interim results
report.
Details pertaining to the year end results presentation to be held on 18 May 2006
Investec will be releasing its results for the year ended 31 March 2006 on the LSE
and JSE news services at 7am (UK time) / 8am (SA time) on 18 May 2006. An investor

in Johannesburg (100 Grayston Drive, Sandown) and via video conference to our
