Trading statement
Investec to report strong performance for the first half of the 2006 financial
year
Investec is currently finalising its results for the six months to 30 September
2005, which will be released on 17 November 2005.
As highlighted at our pre-close briefing on 21 September 2005 the group has
experienced a strong performance from all its business units and is pleased to
report to shareholders that earnings per share (**as defined below) for the six
months ended 30 September 2005 is likely to be in the range of 84 pence to 87
pence, i.e. 38.4% to 43.3% higher than the corresponding prior period. Earnings
per share**, as restated, for the six months ended 30 September 2004 amounted to
60.7 pence.
Note:
The forecast financial information on which this statement is based has not been
reviewed and reported on by the group's auditors. These disclosures are made in
terms of paragraph 3.4 (b)(i) of the JSE Securities Exchange South Africa
Listings Requirements which requires companies to publish a trading statement as
soon as they are satisfied that the results for the period to be reported on
next will differ by at least 20% from the previous corresponding period.
Earnings per share definition
**As determined in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards
(IFRS). EPS is before goodwill impairment and non-operating items and after
taking into consideration the accrual of dividends attributable to perpetual
preference shareholders. EPS for the six months ended 30 September 2004 is based
on the group's consolidated pro-forma results as explained in the transition to
IFRS announcement released on 21 September 2005.
Details pertaining to the interim results presentation to be held on 17 November 2005
Investec will be releasing its results for the six months ended 30 September
2005 on the LSE and JSE news services at 7am (UK time) / 9am (SA time) on 17
November 2005. An investor presentation will take place at 9am (UK time) / 11 am
(SA time) from our offices in Johannesburg (100 Grayston Drive, Sandown) and via
satellite to our offices in London (2 Gresham Street, EC2V 7HQ). Conference call
