Directorate Changes


John Lewis of Hungerford plc ('the Company') is pleased to announce the
appointment of Jon Rosby to the Board of the Company as a Director, with the
intention that he will assume the role of Managing Director once he has
completed a period of familiarisation with the Company and its business. His
appointment will take effect on 2 October 2006.


Jon Rosby was formerly Trading Director of MFI Limited and brings to our
business some 30 years of relevant industry experience.


John Lewis, Chairman, commented:

"Jon's appointment completes the management transition initiated by the Board
with the appointment to the Board on 23rd January 2006 of Malcolm Hepworth, who
assumed the executive responsibilities of Managing Director of the Company's
business under a consultancy arrangement. Malcolm has been instrumental in
helping the Company secure the services of Jon Rosby and although he will
continue to fulfil these executive responsibilities for the time being, while
Jon rosby familiarises himself with the business, he will relinquish them as
soon as Jon Rosby is ready to assume the role of Managing Director.


As part of the reorganisation of the Company's management and the Board, I will
be relinquishing day to day executive responsibilities from the time Jon Rosby
assumes the role of Managing Director but will thereafter remain Chairman of the
Company working in a part time capacity. My wife, Linda Lewis, will retire as a
Director with immediate effect.


Your Board believes that these changes complete the managerial transition we
have been working on for some time and puts the future development of the
Company into younger and highly experienced hands.


We are confident that these changes are in the best interests of our
shareholders and offer the greatest potential for enhancing future shareholder
value".
