             Placing to raise £400,000, Directors' Dealings and 
                      Confirmation of Total Voting Rights

John Lewis of Hungerford plc is pleased to announce that it has completed a
placing of 20,000,000 new ordinary shares of 0.1p each in the Company ("New
Ordinary Shares") at a price of 2p per share, raising £383,250 net of the
expenses of issue ("the Placing"). The proceeds of the Placing will be used,
predominantly, to fund the planned opening of two new showrooms in Oxford and
Cambridge and to roll out the new Cool and Steamer Bay kitchen ranges to most of
the Company's showrooms.

Three of the Company's directors have participated in the Placing at the Placing
price, as follows:

Application has been made for the New Ordinary Shares, which will rank pari
passu with all existing Ordinary Shares, to be admitted to trading on AIM and it
is expected that such admission will be effective from 8am on 14 March 2008.

Following the issue of the New Ordinary Shares the Company's issued share
capital will consist of 186,745,519 ordinary shares with a nominal value of 0.1p
per share with voting rights (one vote per ordinary share). The Company does not
hold any ordinary shares in treasury. The figure of 186,745,519 ordinary shares
may be used by shareholders as the denominator for the calculations by which
they will determine if they are required to notify their interest in, or a
change to their interest in, the Company under the Financial Services
Authority's Disclosure and Transparency Rules.

The directors' beneficial interests in the issued ordinary share capital of the
Company following the issue of the New Ordinary Shares pursuant to the Placing
are as follows:
