REPURCHASE OF SHARES IN JOHNSON MATTHEY PLC

Johnson Matthey Plc announces that on 11th September 2001, it purchased for 
cancellation 265,000 ordinary shares of Johnson Matthey Plc at an average price 
of 926.39 pence per share. Upon the cancellation of these shares, the number of 
shares in issue will be 220,475,909.
