Final Results - Year to 30 September 1999

Fleming Asian Investment Trust PLC 25 November 1999 The Company today announces its unaudited results for the year to 30 September 1999. The Company's net asset value per ordinary share in sterling terms has increased by 78.8% (capital only) over the year to 30 September 1999. The Company's benchmark, the Morgan Stanley Composite Asia Free Index ex Japan in sterling terms returned 83.3% (also capital only) over the same period. This shortfall was due mainly to the defensive position of the portfolio during the fourth quarter of 1998 when Asian stock markets rallied strongly. The stocks which initially rebounded included highly indebted companies which would benefit most from lower interest rates. The portfolio had no exposure to such companies due to quality concerns. The Board is recommending a final dividend of 0.5 pence per share, payable on 10 February 2000 to shareholders on the register on 10 January 2000.
