       THE FLEMING ASIAN INVESTMENT TRUST PLC

The  Board  of The Fleming Asian Investment Trust
have  today announced the unaudited interim results
of the Company for the six months to 31 March 2000.

The Company's net asset value per ordinary share
rose by 69.0% to  139.6 pence which compares
favourably with a 25.8% rise in
the  Company's  benchmark, the Morgan Stanley
Composite  Free Asia  Index ex Japan (in sterling
terms) over the same period. The  Company's
ordinary  share price  over  the  same  period
increased by 86.4%.
