                   THE FLEMING INDIAN INVESTMENT TRUST PLC

                REPURCHASE OF ORDINARY SHARES FOR CANCELLATION


The Fleming Indian Investment Trust plc announces that yesterday in the market
they purchased for cancellation 150,000 ordinary shares at 54.5p per share
representing 0.19% of the ordinary shares in issue.

The number of shares repurchased to date now totals 13,685,000.

The remaining shares in issue following this repurchase total 78,544,792.
