                      APPOINTMENT OF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR


Land Securities announce that Andrew Macfarlane will be joining the Board as
Finance Director on 1 October 2001.  He is currently Chief Financial Officer
of Bass Hotels and Resorts, a division of Bass plc, which operates or
franchises 3,000 hotels in more than 90 countries.  Andrew is responsible for
worldwide financial operations with 300 staff based in the USA, Europe and Far
East.  In the past four years Andrew has been involved in a number of complex,
asset backed transactions including the $2.9 billion Intercontinental and £810
million Posthouse acquisitions and the subsequent integration of the finance
activities.


Commenting on the appointment, Ian Henderson, Chief Executive of Land
Securities, said, 'We are delighted that Andrew has agreed to join the Board.
He brings with him a keen appreciation of the importance of balance sheet
management as well as first-class financial and corporate finance
capabilities.'



Andrew started his career at Bass plc in 1997 when he joined as Director
Corporate Finance & Planning, where he led the sale of 1,400 leased pubs and
Bass' leisure division, raising £1.3 billion.  Prior to this, he was at Ernst
& Young where he was made a Partner in 1987.  At Ernst & Young he gained a
wide range of M&A, stock exchange and other transactional experience across a
broad range of industries in the UK and abroad.
