Further to the announcement released to the London Stock Exchange on 18
September 2000, Marks and Spencer p.l.c. announces that the effective date of
Roger Holmes' appointment as Executive Director is 1 January 2001.
As previously announced Roger will join the Executive Board as Managing
Director, UK Retail. As head of the UK Retail Division he will be responsible
for all aspects of the UK Retail business, operations and management of 7
Customer Business Units, functional heads and stores.
Roger's strong strategic management skills, combined with proven hands-on
experience in a range of business activities, including format development,
profit turnaround and customer-focused organisational change, will be
especially relevant at this stage in the Company's recovery.
