Marks and Spencer Group plc (the 'Company') has been informed today of the
following purchases in London of ordinary shares of 25p each in the Company:


Lord Burns

24,316 shares purchased at a price of 411.25p per share.  His total shareholding
following this transaction is 46,543 shares.  The registered holder for these
shares is Pershing Keen Nominees Limited.


Stuart Rose

250,000 shares purchased at a price of 410.66p per share.  His total
shareholding following this transaction is 750,416 shares.  The registered
holder for these shares is Giltspur Nominees Limited.


Steven Esom

24,360 shares purchased at a price of 410.50p per share.  His total shareholding
following this transaction is 24,360.


Carl Leaver

17,954 shares purchased : 14,567 at a price of 409.75p in his own name, 1,692
shares at a price of 410.94p and 1,695 shares at a price of 410.22p per share.
The latter two transactions into beneficial holdings on behalf of himself and
his wife respectively.   His total shareholding following these transactions is
17,954.
