ELLEN CLARKE JOINS MARSH INC.
AS CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER

NEW YORK, December 7, 1999 - Marsh Inc., the world's leading risk and
insurance services firm, today announced the appointment of Ellen Clarke as
Chief Information Officer, effective immediately.  She reports to Brandon W.
Sweitzer, President.

Ms Clarke is responsible for the strategic and operating direction of Marsh
Inc.'s firm-wide information technology programs.  She previously was a
Partner with Ernst & Young and also has held a series of senior management
positions with technology responsibilities in several major investment banks.

'Ellen Clarke's experience always has involved an emphasis on managing
technology initiatives that support business strategies in the financial
services industry,'  Mr. Sweitzer said.  'Her role at Marsh will be to assure
the effectiveness of our technology investments focused on enhancing service
to our clients and improving our internal productivity.'

Ms. Clarke commented, 'Marsh Inc. is a recognised industry leader in

Ms. Clarke is a graduate of Mount St. Vincent College and New York University,
where she earned the M.B.A. degree.  She lives in New York City.
