                         Comment re press speculation

Following the publication of its interim results statement yesterday, and in
order to clarify misleading comments in certain newspaper articles, PMI
comments as follows:

*         The Board is not soliciting an offer for the Group as a whole.

*         The Board is not in discussions with any party, which might result
          in an offer for the Group.

*         The Board continues to look for ways to optimise shareholder value
          through the possible disposal of the Group's Operating business in    
          certain territories.
