                    APPOINTMENT OF NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR



M J Gleeson Group plc, the construction services, housebuilding and property
group, is pleased to announce that John McKenna has been appointed to the
Board of the Company as a Non-Executive Director with effect from 1 February
2001.



John McKenna, 63, who has over 40 years' experience in the construction
industry in the UK and overseas, was previously Managing Director of Taylor
Woodrow Construction Limited and a member of the Executive Board of Taylor
Woodrow plc until his retirement in December 1997. He was also Chairman of the
London Branch of the Irish Construction Industry Federation until February
2000.

Mr McKenna does not at present hold any shares in the Company and there are no
disclosures required under section 16.4 of the Listing Rules.

Welcoming John McKenna to the Board, Gleeson's Executive Chairman, Dermot
Gleeson, said: 'At a time when we have, by a very considerable measure, our
largest ever construction order book, I am delighted that we have been able to
secure the services of someone of John's outstanding calibre and experience.'
