Gleeson(M J)Group PLC 16 October 2000 MORE CONSERVATION AWARDS FOR GLEESON HOMES One of the country's leading developers of brownfield sites, Gleeson Homes, a principal subsidiary of MJ Gleeson Group plc, the construction, housebuilding and property group, has won further awards for conversions and restorations. The latest are Civic Society Conservation Awards for two of its projects in Royal Tunbridge Wells. The first is for The Depository, a restoration and conversion scheme in a former department store furniture depository, which additionally won an Evening Standard Best Conversion Award. The second is for Cumberland Park, a development of apartments in a converted stately home. Earlier this year, Gleeson Homes received a Best Use of a Brownfield Site Commendation for a project in Bakewell, Derbyshire in the National Homebuilder Design Awards 2000. Cornish Place, a former cutlery works in Sheffield, won the Best Restoration and Conversion Award in the same awards. Last year, Cornish Place won two What House? Gold Awards prompting the Rt Hon Richard Caborn, Minister of Trade, to say: 'Gleeson Homes has been involved in a number of successful and innovative urban regeneration schemes around the country. It is to be congratulated for taking up the challenge to develop on brownfield sites and for the recycling of old buildings - it is good to see life generated back into the City Centre.' Gleeson Homes has won numerous other Awards in recent years, including a What House? Silver Award, a City of Chichester Heritage Award and a Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust Award. Gleeson Homes' most extensive current development is the £100m village of 430 town houses, apartments and large detached family houses at Netherne-on-the-Hill near Coulsdon, Surrey. This is the first village to be built in Surrey since the war and is made up of conversions, refurbishments and new build properties on the site of a former isolation hospital within the Surrey greenbelt.
