National Express Group PLC 11 September 2006 Monday 11 September 2006 National Express Group PLC ('the company') Board Changes Following the announcement of his appointment at the Annual General Meeting on 24 May 2006, National Express today confirms that Richard Bowker will start at the company as Group Chief Executive and be appointed to the Board on 12 September 2006. As previously announced, Phil White, the current Group Chief Executive, is retiring from the company and will step down from his role as Chief Executive and director with effect from today, 11 September 2006. - E N D S - Notes to Editors: Richard, aged 40, is a qualified chartered management accountant, starting his business career at London Underground where he specialised in innovative procurement techniques, commercial development and public private partnerships. Between December 2001 and September 2004, he was Chair and Chief Executive of the Strategic Rail Authority where during a period of recovery for UK railways he led the industry through the successful delivery of the multi billion pound West Coast Main Line Route Modernisation, the replacement of the life expired slam door commuter trains, and improved performance. Richard was formerly commercial director of Virgin Group and co-chairman of Virgin Rail. In August 2005 he was appointed Chief Executive of the Partnerships for Schools ('PfS'), a government body responsible for delivering the Building Schools for the Future investment programme.
