Morgan Sindall WINS £49 million university of reading scheme
Morgan Sindall plc, the construction and regeneration group, has further strengthened its portfolio of education projects after signing a £49 million contract with the University of Reading.
The Group's construction business, Morgan Ashurst, is one of the University's construction partners in a four-year refurbishment and redevelopment programme being delivered under a framework agreement worth approximately £200 million. The contract involves the construction of new student halls of residence at the University.
Work will include building two new halls of residence, consisting of 965 bedrooms, a new catering building and the refurbishment of the ground floor of an existing hall of residence, converting the space into offices. Construction has already started and the project is due to complete in September 2010.
This latest scheme follows two recent contracts wins, worth £25 million, with the University of Leeds to build a student accommodation complex and refurbish a Grade II-listed Colour Science Laboratory.
Paul Smith, Chief Executive of Morgan Sindall plc, said:
'Public sector demand in the education market remains healthy, where we have developed a strong position and this latest announcement is further evidence of our ability to benefit from this trend.'
