BETINTERNET.COM PLC OPENS NEW REVENUE CHANNEL THROUGH
AGREEMENT WITH IRISH GREYHOUND BOARD
19 January, 2001 - Douglas, Isle of Man
betinternet.com Plc opens the opportunity for a new revenue channel by today
announcing that Euro Off-Track, its 50-50 joint venture with the Greyhound
Channel, Inc of the US, has signed an exclusive broadcast and wagering agreement
with The Irish Greyhound Board. Through a live feed the US Greyhound public will
be able to bet directly into the Irish Tote Pools. Also betinternet.com
customers will be able to place bets directly into the Irish and American Totes
and view the races live through a clipping service.
The agreement allows Euro Off-Track the exclusive rights to receive and
broadcast the live audio-visual feed of races from Shelbourne Park and Harolds
Cross, directly into the United States and the other markets in which it
operates. Euro Off-Track is also able to sub-license its broadcasting rights of
Irish Greyhound races to third parties, such as internet and telephone betting
service providers and traditional betting shops. This agreement, which is a
world first in the Greyhound industry, exposes Irish Greyhound racing to a US
viewing public of several millions and with an annual turnover of $2 Billion.
Vincent Caldwell, Chairman and CEO of betinternet.com plc, said:
'Euro Off-Track is delighted to have signed such a prestigious customer as The
Irish Greyhound Board and is confident that this is the first of many customers
for global pool wagering into our European base.
'It is also a tremendous opportunity for the customers of betinternet.com plc to
be able to place bets directly into the Irish and American Greyhound Tote Pools.
Pascal Taggart, Chairman of the Irish Greyhound Board, added:
'This is very good news for Greyhound racing in Ireland. The sport gains
exposure in the United States and the enlarged Tote greatly increases potential
winnings for the Greyhound racing public. This development will prove extremely
beneficial for Greyhound racing in Ireland.'
Steve Hlas, Chief Executive of Euro Off-Track, commented;
'Our top objective is to globalise pool betting and this agreement marks a
significant step towards reaching that goal. We are delighted to be able to add
Irish Greyhound racing to Euro Off-Track and to broadcast Irish races in the US
and throughout the other markets in which we operate.'
