Roy Smith Appointed New Chief Executive Officer

NMT Group PLC 18 January 2000 Appointment of New Chief Executive Officer Livingston, Scotland - The Board of NMT Group PLC ('NMT'), the manufacturer of retractable devices to prevent needlestick injury, today announces the appointment of Roy Smith as the Company's new Chief Executive Officer, with effect from April 2000. He replaces John Campbell who has served as CEO of NMT since 1996 and who is retiring from the Company for personal reasons. Roy Smith, 41, joins NMT from another of the UK's listed medical device companies, Advanced Medical Solutions plc, where he was appointed Commercial Director in April 1997 before becoming Chief Executive in August of that year. Prior to joining Advanced Medical Solutions, he spent 16 years at Johnson & Johnson Professional where he rose to become General Manager of its operations in the UK. At Johnson & Johnson, he had particular responsibility for building global brands within the professional products division.
