Appointment of New Chief Executive Officer
Livingston, Scotland - The Board of NMT Group PLC ('NMT'), the manufacturer of
retractable devices to prevent needlestick injury, today announces the
appointment of Roy Smith as the Company's new Chief Executive Officer, with
effect from April 2000. He replaces John Campbell who has served as CEO of
NMT since 1996 and who is retiring from the Company for personal reasons.
Roy Smith, 41, joins NMT from another of the UK's listed medical device
companies, Advanced Medical Solutions plc, where he was appointed Commercial
Director in April 1997 before becoming Chief Executive in August of that year.
Prior to joining Advanced Medical Solutions, he spent 16 years at Johnson &
Johnson Professional where he rose to become General Manager of its operations
in the UK. At Johnson & Johnson, he had particular responsibility for
building global brands within the professional products division.
Commenting on the appointment, Dr Roger Gilmour, Chairman of NMT, said:
'We are delighted to announce the appointment of Roy Smith as the new Chief
Executive of NMT. He has a thorough understanding of the medical devices
industry from his time at Johnson & Johnson, and from Advanced Medical
Solutions where he also gained extensive senior managerial and City-related
experience. With this background, he is the ideal candidate to lead the
company forward.
'The Board wishes to thank John Campbell for his very significant contribution
to the development of the Company in recent years and wishes him success in
his future endeavours.'
Roy Smith added:
'There is unquestionably enormous potential in the market that NMT seeks to
exploit and I look forward to working with the team at NMT to ensure that we
maximise this great commercial opportunity.'
