Dutch Premier League Purchases ORAD's CyberSport Graphic System for Advertising
on the Pitch ('Virtual Carpet Advertising')
Orad Hi-Tec Systems Limited, world leader in virtual sets, on-air graphics and
sports production tools, today announced the signing of a major deal with the
Dutch Premiere League Eredivisie. ORAD will provide Eredivisie with its
CyberSport graphic enhancement system to insert 'virtual carpet advertising'
onto the pitch for broadcasts of matches during the 2004-05 soccer season.
Under the terms of the Agreement, ORAD's CyberSport graphic enhancement system
will be used to insert 'virtual carpet advertising' into the local feed of all
306 games of the upcoming season. Premiere League Eredevisie is home to major
European football clubs such as Ajax, PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord.
'What attracted us to Orad's system was that the Eredevisie League and its teams
may share in the revenues generated by virtual carpet advertising, as each party
can secure their own sponsor', said Chris Woerts, Director of Commerce &
Marketing. 'Orad's system is able to insert virtual carpets in stadia where
regular carpets could not be placed, so by working with Orad, we ensure that all
our teams can generate additional revenues using this system.'
All 18 clubs of the Eredivisie NV will introduce this new virtual advertising
system in the 2004 - 2005 season. Two positions were sold centrally, while this
innovative system gives clubs the opportunity to promote their own sponsors as
well.
The system is highly flexible and allows for 'carpets' to be changed frequently
throughout a match. 'Carpets' can be inserted anywhere on the sidelines, and in
instances where the on-field action is concentrated on one side of the field, '
carpets' planned to be shown on the other side of the field can be repositioned
to where the action is taking place.
Commenting on the deal, Orad's CEO Mr. Avi Sharir said: 'As a long time advocate
of the benefits of virtual advertising for sporting organisations, I am thrilled
to have a league such as Erdevisie adopt Orad's CyberSport graphic enhancement
system. CyberSport is the only system on the market providing a comprehensive
solution to rights holders such as Erdevisie. The league will now be able to
provide its advertisers with a new, globally recognised, way to strengthen and
tie their brand to a league and to teams.
The architect of the deal, Orad's consultant Kobi Bendel said: 'This deal is a
breakthrough which will help to stimulate and to rejuvenate the virtual
advertising market.' 'I am pleased to see a respected league such as Erdevisie
seizing the opportunity to provide its sponsors with additional exposure to
television audiences throughout the Netherlands,' added Bendel.
The system will be operated by Dutch sports production company WK Productions.
