                             Director's resignation


Prof. Wiseman Nkuhlu, a non-executive Director of Old Mutual plc, has notified
the Company of his resignation from the Board of Old Mutual plc with effect from
31 October 2006 by reason of his having accepted appointment as Chairman of
Kagiso Trust Investments, a company listed on the JSE that is a major
shareholder in another listed South African insurance company.

Prof. Nkuhlu will also thereupon cease to be a member of the Company's Audit
Committee and a director of its South African life business, Old Mutual Life
Assurance Company (South Africa) Limited. He has been a Director of the Company
since March 2005.

Commenting on Prof. Nkuhlu's resignation, Chris Collins, Chairman of Old Mutual
plc, said: 'I would like to thank Wiseman for his valuable contribution to the
Board over the past eighteen months. He will be greatly missed'.
