           Piers Spence promoted to Director of Co-Edition Publishing

Quarto, the London-based and listed international book publisher, announces
that, with effect from the beginning of 2005, Piers Spence, 45, takes on the
newly-created role of Director of Co-Edition Publishing, Quarto's principal
activity. He is succeeded as publisher of the Quarto adult list by Paul
Carslake, 42, who joins Quarto from Centaur Communications.

Laurence F. Orbach, Quarto's Chairman and Chief Executive, stated: 'Piers is
uniquely qualified to take on this new role, whose creation reflects the growth
and maturing of the Quarto Group's business. For more than five years he has
been enormously successful at building Quarto's adult co-edition list into a
leading resource for publishers worldwide, and a great profit earner for the
Group.

'This appointment acknowledges that I could not continue to pile on the number
of direct reports that has grown as a direct result of the new businesses we've
started in the last few years, and the recent spate of publishing acquisitions
that we've made.

'I am delighted that Piers is stepping up to this new challenge, and that this
begins a process of altering the structure of the Group to reflect its
complexity, maturity and ambition.'

2003 was Quarto's fifth successive year of increase in underlying EPS. On
October 22, 2004, Quarto announced that its unaudited results for the nine
months ended September 30, 2004 continued the substantial growth of profit
demonstrated at the six months' stage. Quarto made three acquisitions in the
second half of 2004, in the USA, the UK, and Australia.
