- Notification of Major Interest in Shares

The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc.

On 12 February 2008, the Company received notification, under the obligations
imposed by Section DTR5 of the FSA's Disclosure & Transparency Rules, from
Goldman Sachs International that, as at 8 February 2008, The Goldman Sachs
Group, Inc. ('GS Inc') had a notifiable interest in the voting rights attached
to 24,082,810 Ordinary 13 8/9p shares representing 6.17% of the total voting
rights in The Rank Group Plc.

Notes:

a) The interest in 23,681,812 shares arose from an interest held by Goldman,
Sachs & Co., a wholly-owned direct subsidiary of GS Inc, acting as custodian for
its customers. These shares are, or will be, registered in the name of Goldman
Sachs Securities (Nominees), Limited.

b) The interest in 19,152 shares arose from an interest held by Goldman, Sachs &
Co., a wholly-owned direct subsidiary of GS Inc, acting as discretionary
manager. These shares are, or will be, registered in the name of Goldman Sachs
Securities (Nominees), Limited.

c) The interest in 381,846 shares arose from the interest held by Goldman Sachs
Asset Management, LP a wholly-owned subsidiary of GS Inc acting as discretionary
manger. We believe that some of these shares are, or will be, registered in the
name of Golman Sachs Securities (Nominees), Limited ('GSSN').
