Reed Elsevier Presentation to Institutional Investors in New York Today
Reed Elsevier plc will be meeting a group of institutional investors later
this afternoon in New York, as part of a series of presentations by European
and US media companies, organised by UBS Warburg.
During the meeting the institutions will receive brief presentations from the
chief executives of Reed Elsevier's US businesses - LEXIS, NEXIS and Cahners
Business Information - and of Elsevier Science, on the strategic priorities
set out by Crispin Davis, Reed Elsevier's chief executive officer, in February
2000. They will confirm that the businesses are performing in line with
expectations and are on track against the previously stated strategic
objectives.
Derk Haank, CEO of Elsevier Science, will say that the roll out of the
ScienceDirect web based scientific information service is progressing well and
now covers over 35% of journal subscriptions. He will also describe the
expansion of services to scientific markets beyond traditional publishing
including the recent acquisition of Endeavor, a leading provider of library
management systems.
Lou Andreozzi, CEO of LEXIS, will describe the targeted improvements being
made to the content, functionality and ease of use of the legal research
products. He will also describe how LEXIS is improving its product and
marketing to specific market segments and to law schools.
Bill Pardue, CEO of NEXIS, will explain the steps being taken to enhance the
online information products and expand services to customers. He will talk
about the recent acquisition of RiskWise, the growing provider of fraud
prevention and risk management tools for e-commerce.
Marc Teren, CEO of Cahners, will say that progress is on track in the
development of Cahners' internet portals in its target markets. He will
describe the recent acquisition of CMD Group, the information provider for the
construction industry, and its implications for Cahners' web strategy in the
construction market. He will also describe how the acquisition of eLogic, the
web platform and application developer, will support Cahners' internet
initiatives.
A detailed update on the implementation of group strategy will be included in
the Interim Statement for the half year to 30 June 2000, to be published on 9
August 2000.
