Shanks Group plc Board Appointments
The Board of Shanks Group plc, a leading European independent waste management
company, is pleased to announce today three new appointments to its Board of
Directors as of 16 May 2005.
Mr Fraser Welham BSc ACA is appointed Director after nearly ten years service
with the Group. He will assume the position of Group Finance Director with
effect from 1 June 2005. For the past seven years he has been Finance Director
for Shanks in Belgium. Previously he was Financial Controller of Waste Services
operations in the UK and he also held a financial planning role at the Group
Head Office. He was Group Accountant at Attwoods plc prior to joining Shanks.
Mr Adrian Auer BA MBA ACT is joining as a Non-Executive Director and will be the
Chairman of the Audit Committee following the retirement of Mr Richard Biffa. He
was Group Finance Director of RMC Group plc until its takeover in 2005 by Cemex
S.A. Previously he was Group Finance Director of Taylor Woodrow plc, Admiral plc
and SWALEC plc. He is Chairman of Readymix plc and has recently been appointed
Non-Executive Director of Bespak plc and Foseco plc.
Mr Peter Johnson BA ACA is joining as a Non-Executive Director. He is Finance
Director of Taylor Woodrow plc. Previously he was Group Finance Director of
Henderson plc and was Chief Financial Officer for Pearl Assurance and Finance
Director of Norwich Union Life. He was Group Finance Director of Bioglan Pharma
plc for a short period.
Mr Richard Biffa MCIWM having reached age 65 will be retiring as Non-executive
Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee on 30 June 2005.
Mr David Downes BSc, MBA, FCMA, FCT, currently Group Finance Director is due to
retire in December 2005 after reaching age 60. He will remain on the Board to
ensure a smooth hand over to Mr Welham and will be responsible for Special
Projects, particularly the structure of future PFI projects.
Mr Ian Clubb, Chairman, commented: ' We are delighted to welcome the three new
directors to the Board who will be bringing considerable financial and business
experience to the Group's affairs. We also thank Mr Richard Biffa and Mr David
Downes for their significant contributions to the development of the Company who
will have completed fourteen and twelve years service respectively at their
retirement'.
In connection with the above appointments there are no other details required to
be disclosed under paragraphs 6.F.2(b) to (g) of the Listing Rules, other than
in respect of Mr Johnson that Bioglan Pharma plc was placed in administration in
February 2002.
