Contract Awarded

Radstone Technology PLC 19 June 2000 Radstone Technology PLC ('Radstone') Radstone Secures Further $20.9m MLRS Contract Radstone Technology, one of the world's leading suppliers of rugged computer subsystems to the industrial and defence sectors, announces the award of a further $20.9m contract from the Harris Corporation, Melbourne, Florida, to supply its latest rugged PowerPC 603e Processor and PMC 1553 modules into the US Army's Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) upgrade programme. Following last year's initial award for the upgrade of some 55 MLRS units, the new contract with Harris covers all of their requirements for the next 5 years of a 10 year programme, which will upgrade a further 500 of the 850 MLRS units now in service with the US Army. The MLRS is a combat proven, high-mobility artillery system, deploying up to 12 surface-to-surface rockets in two six-rocket pods. The rockets may be fired simultaneously or individually, using an automated self- loading and aiming system. MLRS is also in service with the British Army as well as several European NATO defence forces and the new contract is expected to lead to further opportunities for Radstone's standard Commercial-off-the- Shelf (COTS) rugged computer technology. Radstone's COTS products form an integral part of a major upgrade to the computerised fire control system, which integrates the vehicle and rocket launching operations. The improved system will allow the use of advanced mission software with enhanced capability to handle complex munitions. The upgraded computer also allows major video display enhancements, as well as the use of on-board GPS navigation and ultra-fast signal processing algorithms. This new contract maintains Radstone's long association with the MLRS, which includes the development and supply of over 4000 memory modules in earlier retrofit programmes. Deliveries under the new contract will begin later this year. Commenting on the win, Radstone Group Managing Director, Dr Charles Paterson said: 'The order, won in March 2000, is a strong endorsement of Radstone's rugged COTS technology and our ability to meet the exacting requirements of this programme. We are delighted to continue our association with the Harris Corporation on this important application'.
