APPOINTMENT OF ANN GODBEHERE TO BRITISH AMERICAN TOBACCO PLC BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Rio Tinto announces that Ann Godbehere, non executive director and chairman of the Audit Committee of Rio Tinto plc and Rio Tinto Limited, will join the Board of British American Tobacco plc as a non executive director with effect from 3 October 2011. 

This announcement is made pursuant to Listing Rule 9.6.14R.
