We wish to advise you that The Rio Tinto Employee Share Ownership Trust (a trust
for  the  benefit  of Rio Tinto group employees) transferred 140,529  shares to
certain directors and employees on 24 February 2000. Prior to 24 February 2000
the trust held 315,395 Rio Tinto shares.

Of the shares transferred 11,984 were transferred to Mr R Adams at no cost. Mr R
Adams, a director of Rio Tinto plc, is interested in all shares held by the
trust by virtue of his interest as a potential beneficiary of the  trust. The
number of shares in which he is interested by virtue of  being a potential
beneficiary of the trust has been reduced by 140,529 to 174,866.

The  total  number  of  Rio  Tinto shares in which Mr R  Adams is beneficially
interested is now 49,140.



We wish to advise you that The Rio Tinto Employee Share Ownership Trust (a trust
for  the  benefit  of Rio Tinto group employees) transferred 140,529  shares to
certain directors and employees on 24 February 2000. Prior to 24 February 2000
the trust held 315,395 Rio Tinto shares.

Of the shares transferred 21,149 were transferred to Sir Robert Wilson  at
no  cost.  Sir  Robert, a director of Rio Tinto plc, is interested  in  all
shares  held  by  the  trust  by  virtue of his  interest  as  a  potential
beneficiary  of the trust. The number of shares in which he is interested
by  virtue  of being a potential beneficiary of the trust has been reduced
by 140,529 to 174,866.

The  total  number of Rio Tinto shares in which Sir Robert is beneficially
interested is now 107,311.

certain directors and employees on 24 February 2000. Prior to 24 February 2000
the trust held 315,395 Rio Tinto shares.

cost.  Mr Bull, a director of Rio Tinto plc, is interested in all shares
held by the trust by virtue of his interest as a potential beneficiary  of
the trust.  The number of shares in which he is interested  by  virtue  of
being  a potential beneficiary of the trust has been reduced by 140,529  to
174,866.

The total number of Rio Tinto shares in which Mr Bull is beneficially
interested is now 58,471.



We wish to advise you that The Rio Tinto Employee Share Ownership Trust (a trust
for  the  benefit  of Rio Tinto group employees) transferred 140,529  shares to
certain directors and employees on 24 February 2000. Prior to 24 February 2000
the trust held 315,395 Rio Tinto shares.

Of  the shares transferred 9,986 were transferred to Mr J C A Leslie at no
cost.  Mr Leslie, a director of Rio Tinto plc, is interested in all shares
held  by the trust by virtue of his interest as a potential beneficiary of
the  trust.  The number of shares in which he is interested  by  virtue of
being  a potential beneficiary of the trust has been reduced by 140,529 to
174,866.

The  total  number of Rio Tinto shares in which Mr Leslie  is  beneficially
interested is now 37,988.



We wish to advise you that The Rio Tinto Employee Share Ownership Trust (a trust
for  the  benefit  of Rio Tinto group employees) transferred 140,529  shares to
certain directors and employees on 24 February 2000. Prior to 24 February 2000
the trust held 315,395 Rio Tinto shares.

Of the  shares transferred 9,517 were transferred to Mr G H Sage at no cost.  Mr
 Sage, a director of Rio Tinto plc, is interested in  all  shares held  by the
trust by virtue of his interest as a potential beneficiary  of the  trust.  The
number of shares in which he is interested  by  virtue  of being  a potential
beneficiary of the trust has been reduced by 140,529 to 174,866.

The  total  number  of  Rio Tinto shares in which Mr Sage  is  beneficially
interested is now 49,528.
