RM appoints leading educationalist Mike Tomlinson as Non-Executive Director
RM plc, the UK's leading supplier of ICT and other services to education, has
appointed leading educationalist Mike Tomlinson CBE as a Non-Executive Director.
He joins the Board with effect from the 2nd February 2004.
Mike is currently Chair of the DfES' (Department for Education and Skills)
Working Group on educational reform for 14-19 year olds. As Her Majesty's Chief
Inspector for Schools, Mike was responsible for the work of Ofsted (the Office
for Standards in Education) from December 2000 until April 2002. In Summer 2002
he was asked by Estelle Morris (Secretary of State for Education at the time) to
head an independent expert inquiry into A Level Standards.
John Leighfield, Chairman of the RM Group, said:
RM is fortunate to have attracted an educationalist of Mike Tomlinson's stature
as a Board Member. Mike has vast experience of education and is highly respected
by teachers and education policy makers alike. As RM continues its transition
towards being a broadly-based education services provider - and makes an ever
greater contribution to helping teachers improve the effectiveness of education
- Mike's knowledge and insights will be invaluable.'
Mike Tomlinson said:
'RM is one of the UK's leading education companies and I'm pleased to have been
given the opportunity to help shape their strategy. I firmly believe that
private sector companies, delivering a wide range of services, have a key role
to play in the development of education in the UK. For example, in the area of
technology, I commented in my report on A Level standards that ICT offers the
prospect of significant improvements in the efficiency, quality and flexibility
of the examinations system.'
