Drilling underway at Marengo
Rockfire Resources (LON: ROCK) is pleased to inform shareholders that reverse circulation drilling commenced on Sunday 9th September at the Marengo gold/copper project in Queensland, Australia.
Chief Executive Officer of Rockfire Resources, David Price commented: "We are delighted to be underway with our much-anticipated drilling at Marengo, which represents the first drilling to ever take place at the One Mile Mountain Prospect. This initial drilling program is focussed entirely on testing "blind" geophysical targets which were identified from gradient array and dipole-dipole induced polarisation sensing techniques. In particular, chargeable anomalies may suggest sulphide mineralisation at around 80m below surface, so we are keen to test if this chargeable response contains gold or copper mineralisation prior to doing any further geophysical work."
A chargeable anomaly surrounded by a resistive response in the geophysics may represent an intrusion with a surrounding alteration halo. Numerous old gold workings occur in close proximity to One Mile Mountain and strong surface geochemistry indicates gold and copper being introduced from somewhere at depth, beneath or close to the mountain. A ground magnetic survey undertaken in August has also helped to pinpoint the targets currently being drilled.
The company will update the market at the conclusion of this initial drilling phase, which is expected to be approximately 10 - 15 days of drilling.
