ROLLS-ROYCE SHARES IN ILFC ENGINE ORDER
Rolls-Royce plc has won business worth $120 million as part of a jet engine
deal announced today with International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC) of
the United States.
The contract involves V2500 engines produced by the International Aero Engines
consortium (IAE), in which Rolls-Royce is a senior shareholder, to power 30
Airbus Industrie A320 series aircraft.
John Cheffins, Chairman of IAE and Managing Director - Airlines, of
Rolls-Royce, described ILFC's selection as 'further evidence of the industry's
preference for the V2500's superior technology.'
The V2500 has taken almost 60 per cent of the A320 family market so far this
year.
Steven F. Udvar-Hazy, ILFC President and Chief Executive Officer, said: 'ILFC
will have the right aircraft and engines available to meet that growing
airline demand.'
ILFC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of American International Group, Inc., has now
ordered a total of 145 aircraft equipped with V2500 engines. It is the
international market leader in the leasing and remarketing of advanced
technology commercial jet aircraft to airlines around the world and owns a
portfolio valued at more than $20 billion consisting of more than 500 jet
aircraft.
The V2500, produced by IAE's partners in Britain, the United States, Germany
and Japan, has around 70 customers worldwide. More than 580 V2500-powered
aircraft have been delivered since the engine family entered service in 1989
and the fleet has accumulated over 13 million flight hours.
