ROLLS-ROYCE WINS $264 MILLION ORDER FROM CONTINENTAL AIRLINES
Rolls-Royce, the aerospace, marine and energy group, has been selected by
Continental Airlines to supply RB211-535E4B engines for 15 firm Boeing 757-300
airliners as part of the carrier's strategic fleet development planning.
Including spare engines, the value of the business to Rolls-Royce is $264
million.
Continental is the first North American airline to select the higher capacity
Boeing 757-300 for use on schedule services. The five other customers who
earlier selected the 757-300 all chose the Rolls-Royce powerplant.
James M. Guyette, President and Chief Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce North
America, said: 'Continental has been a valued customer of ours since the mid
1990s and this follow-on business is a powerful endorsement of the performance
of its current fleet of 41 Rolls-Royce powered 757s. The combination enjoys a
reputation for outstanding efficiency and reliability.'
Over 1,100 RB211-535s are in service with more than 50 airlines worldwide and
have accumulated 21 million flying hours. The engine has been chosen by 80 per
cent of Boeing 757 operators.
