ROLLS-ROYCE WINS $130 MILLION RAF TRISTAR ENGINE SUPPORT CONTRACT
Rolls-Royce plc has been awarded a multi-year engine overhaul support contract
worth up to $130 million from the Ministry of Defence for their fleet of
RB211-524B4 engines powering the Lockheed L1011-500 TriStar aircraft operated by
the Royal Air Force.
A fleet of nine TriStar aircraft is operated by 216 Squadron out of RAF Brize
Norton. The aircraft have a range of tasking, including first line air-to-air
refuelling and passenger and freight transport requirements.
The new contract, which continues the cover provided by Rolls-Royce since 1985,
was won after a competitive tender, and covers five years with an option for a
further five. The value over the full ten-year period would be around
$130million (£85m) and covers support for the RAF's fleet of thirty-three
RB211-524B4 engines.
Rob Eley, Business Director for Derby Aero Repair & Overhaul, said: 'This was
an important competition for us to win, and we are delighted that the RAF has
chosen to continue its long-standing relationship with Rolls-Royce for TriStar
engine support.
'The agreement that we have reached builds on the excellent relationship that we
have with the RAF, and will deliver innovative and improved ways of supporting
the TriStar fleet.'
