Board Change
Schroders plc announces that George W Mallinckrodt will retire as a Director of the Company on 31 December 2008. Mr Mallinckrodt has agreed to continue as President of the Company, a position he has held since 1995.
Mr Mallinckrodt was appointed to the board in 1977, having joined the Group in 1954. Michael Miles, Chairman, said 'I am delighted that Gowi will continue to provide us with his advice after the outstanding contribution he has made to Schroders over 54 years.'

George W Mallinckrodt, KBE, joined J. Henry Schroder Banking Corporation in 1954 in New York. In 1960 he moved to London to develop the continental European business of the firm and became a director of J. Henry Schroder Wagg & Co. Limited in 1967. In 1977 Mr Mallinckrodt was appointed to the board of what is now Schroders plc, and had responsibility for the firm's activities in the United States and Asia, as well as in continental Europe and the Middle East.
In 1983, Mr Mallinckrodt became chairman and chief executive of Schroders in the US. In 1984 he was appointed executive chairman of Schroders plc.
During his career Mr Mallinckrodt focussed successfully on strategic challenges and significant value creation opportunities. Mr Mallinckrodt stood down from executive responsibilities in May 1995.
He was appointed an honorary Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 1997 for services to banking and finance. He was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Civil Law by Bishop's University, Quebec in 1994. The German President awarded him the Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1990 and the Commander's Cross of the same Order in 2001. He was made a Freeman of the City of London in 2004 and was given the annual Sternberg interfaith award in 2005.
