ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
At today's AGM of Senior plc, the Chairman, James Kerr-Muir, made the following
statement -
'Overall trading in the first quarter is in line with the Board's expectations
as set out in the Company's preliminary announcement issued on 14 March 2002.
In the Aerospace Division, first quarter sales were, as anticipated, down by 20%
year on year but it is expected that the second quarter will be marginally
better and the second half of 2002 a little better again as the Division's
workload slowly begins to recover and as destocking in the industry comes to an
end. We continue to pursue new business opportunities, not only on the Airbus
A380 and the Joint Strike Fighter projects, but also by offering cost-effective
manufacturing capability as the industry seeks to rationalise and as it searches
for more economic sourcing.
In the Automotive Division, the first quarter is ahead of expectations, helped
by the US economy showing signs of recovery. Product development work over the
past eighteen months has resulted in new product offerings to customers which
should benefit the Division in the longer term.
In the Industrial Division, demand in Europe is weak but has picked up in North
America, helped by an improving economy and initial signs that the
semi-conductor industry is beginning to recover. We continue to work on making
disposals amongst the European operations within this division.
The Board currently expects that the results for the year will be in line with
its expectations and with continued focus on cash generation, we expect a
further reduction in debt over the full year.'
