SHANTA GOLD LIMITED
NEW TARGETS GENERATED FROM EARLY STAGE SOIL GEOCHEMISTRY ON NEW SINGIDA LICENCE
MUHINTIRI PL6028/2009
11 February 2010
Shanta Gold Limited ("Shanta" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that the
Company has identified a number of gold bearing exploration targets on
Prospecting Licence ("PL") 6028/2009, Muhintiri close to its Singida project in
central Tanzania. The PL, 143km2 in extent and located 40km to the west of the
Gold Tree and Jem prospects, was granted to Shanta by the Ministry of Energy and
Minerals on 21 August 2009. The licence is valid for an initial period of three
years commencing on that date and two ensuing renewal periods are allowed.
Highlights include:
* Highest value recorded was 1040ppb against a background of 10ppb
* Anomalism greater than that recorded over Shanta's deposits 40km to the east
where 982,614oz (at 0.5g/t cut-off) have been defined
* At least three broad, northwest trending target zones identified, containing
in excess of 3 kilometres in strike length and each showing anomalism of
approximately five to ten times background values
* Initial grid at 200m x 50m spacing with follow-up grid at 50m x 50m spacing
Soil sampling was only completed after extensive regolith orientation studies on
the PL. Â These studies confirmed that conventional gold-in-soil geochemistry
would represent bedrock anomalism and that deep sampling (auger) would not be
necessary. Â Target areas (those overlain by ferruginous lateritic soils that
indicate the presence of potentially prospective greenstone geology) were
covered by an extensive programme of 200m x 50m spaced conventional soil
geochemistry.
Anomalous areas were defined across a broad area in the central eastern half of
the licence, most prominently a zone close to the eastern boundary. Follow-up
in-fill sampling on a 50m x 50m grid was commissioned and completed, and
successfully confirmed the anomalism.
In total 4,550 samples were taken. The highest value achieved was 1040ppb. The
background level of Au in soil appears to be about 10ppb. Broad areas of low
anomalism of greater than 20ppb contain well-defined north-west trending higher
grade cores which are five to ten times higher than background and individually
up to 700m in lateral extent. Â These extensive areas of anomalism define at
least three possible north-east trending target zones with a combined apparent
lateral extent of more than 3km. The most prominent north-west-south-east
trending anomaly is developed up to the eastern licence boundary where Shanta
holds the licence area to the south east. Comparison of this anomalism with that
achieved at Gold Tree and Jem where thebulk of the Singida project's resource
has been defined, shows the Muhintiri anomaly to be more pronounced.
Work has started on follow-up trenching and is due for completion during the
2010 field programme. This will be fast-tracked as soon as a mechanical
excavator has been sourced. Should positive results be returned by the trenches
RC drilling will be required to confirm the existence of a potential resource.
