SCOTT WILSON AWARDED MAJOR BRIDGE IN TURKEY
Scott Wilson Group plc ("Scott Wilson" or "the Group"), the international design and engineering consultancy for the built and natural environments, is pleased to announce that it has formed a joint venture with AECOM, to be known as AECOM-Scott Wilson JV, to provide supervision for design, procurement, and construction management services to the NOMAYG consortium of contractors which is constructing a new suspension bridge across the Izmit Bay in Turkey.
The contract is worth £10m ($15m) to the AECOM-Scott Wilson JV and to Scott Wilson £5m in fees over five years.
The suspension bridge is part of a $6.5bn scheme to connect the north-eastern and south-eastern coast of the Sea of Marmara, significantly reducing regional travel time. Crossing the Bay of Izmit, the bridge will provide three lanes of traffic in each direction. The total length of the bridge is to be approximately 3.0 kilometres making it likely to be the second largest suspension bridge in the world by length of central span behind the Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge, in Japan.
Hugh Blackwood, Group Chief Executive, comments, "We are delighted to have been awarded such a prestigious project, another important win for our international business that further develops our credentials in Turkey and long association with the country. We look forward to working in collaboration with AECOM, especially as we seek to develop successful partnerships with major consultants and contractors around the global marketplace."
