Corcoran has been appointed with immediate effect.

STEVE CORCORAN APPOINTED CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER



As part of its strategy of focusing on its hire services activities, Allen has
appointed Steve Corcoran as Chief Operating Officer and a main Board Director
with immediate effect.



Mr. Corcoran, aged 40, joined Allen in 1990 and has been heavily involved in
the development of Speedy Hire Centres.  Most recently he was Managing
Director of Speedy Southern and he has been responsible for the acquisition of
nine companies in the past four years, including Rapid Hire in October 2000
and Jackson Plant in August 2000.



Mr. Corcoran's achievements in the Hire Services Division include meeting
stringent revenue targets and significantly expanding the profitability of
Speedy Southern.  He has been instrumental in making changes spanning all
elements of the business with the establishment of Speedy Hire Direct, Speedy
Midlands, the creation of the Speedy website and the formation of the National
Accounts Office.





David Wallis, newly appointed Chairman of Allen, commented:
